Local Area
Set in the glorious White Peak, The George at Alstonefield is perfectly positioned for exploring the national park. Eight miles from Ashbourne, twelve miles from Bakewell and Chatsworth and sixteen miles from Buxton. Accessible from Lichfield, Stone and Stoke to the South and West, and over to the East the small towns of Matlock and Wirksworth are within striking distance, and there is stunning countryside as far as you can see…

Exploring
The George is central to many loops and meanders, hikes and yomps.
Some of our personal favourites are up to Narrowdale Hill, across to Beresfordale (associated with Izzak Walton and his friend Charles Cotton, and the 17th century classic ‘The Compleat Angler’), and on to Hartington. Then of course, we are a stones throw down to Mill Dale, where you can head off to Dovedale. Stanshope, Ilam and Wetton are all within easy reach.
