FAQs

Can I book a reservation without prepaying a deposit?

As a small restaurant we are greatly affected by last minute cancellations & no-shows.  For evening reservations, we therefore respectfully ask each person to pay a £50 pre-payment when reserving, which will be deducted from your final restaurant bill. £75 deposit will be applied per person for parties of 6 or more. Please make a booking enquiry or email/ring the restaurant if you’d like to book a larger table (6 or more).

What is your cancellation policy?

All sales are final and non-refundable. If you are having issues then please ring the restaurant at least 48 hours before your reservation and we will see what we can do to help – please check out the options for transferring your reservation to another person. Our booking conditions can be found HERE

For bookings secured using card authentication and the above cancellation policy applies, we will claim the full amount from your card.

Can I get a refund once purchased? Can I exchange my reservation for a different night?

If you provide us with 72 hours notice, we can reschedule your reservation. We don’t offer refunds, but are happy for you to give your reservation to a friend.

Can I give my reservation away or sell it?

Yes. The reservation is completely transferable. Please note, however, that selling reservations for greater than face value may be illegal in your area. Anyone who purchases a reservation from another patron should take care to ensure that they have a received a formal transfer of the reservation through the restaurant’s official website. Any reservations purchased on the secondary market are at the purchaser’s risk. We cannot accept responsibility for forgeries or misrepresentations.

Do you accommodate dietary restrictions?

We do our best to use local, high welfare produce and wild, foraged ingredients. Our menus are set and do feature meat, fish and shellfish – albeit are balanced with vegetarian dishes too. We want you to try everything while you are here.  The following ingredients are used throughout our menus and are in most dishes somewhere: dairy, soy, gluten, nuts, honey, sesame, onion, chilli and garlic. We also use all allergens in the kitchen at present. Whilst we follow best practice at all times,  we are unable to guarantee the environment will be completely allergen free. We can offer vegetarian or pescatarian tasting menus. Please make us aware upon making your booking and in good time.

Please note we are unable to offer vegan or dairy free menus.

If you require further information please contact us directly before making a booking.

Do you allow children at the restaurant?

We like to keep the dining room area for adults, but we do have our snug and old bar areas. In these areas we do not have a minimum age policy as all children are different – any child is welcome to eat if they can eat the menu as it is!  We do not have a childrens menu. Please make sure you stipulate how many children are coming in addition to the adults.

Do you have a dress code?

No, you can wear anything that you feel comfortable in!

What if I have a George voucher?

We no longer issue vouchers. Please let us know if you have a voucher and we can make note on your booking. Digital vouchers can be applied to your reservation using the voucher code. We cannot accept gift vouchers as payment for our Sunday Feast or Chef Collaboration evenings. Thank you for your understanding.

Do you allow dogs?

We allow well behaved dogs in the old bar Thursday to Saturday lunchtimes. We do not allow dogs in the evenings. Because dogs are not permitted in the snug or dining room please do make sure to pop a note on your booking or contact us directly to check availability. We have limited tables in the bar area and would hate to disappoint.

What time should I arrive?

We ask you to arrive 15 minutes before your table so we can get you seated – please let us know if you are running a little late. One of the team will meet you on arrival and take you through the menu, wine options and get you some pre dinner drinks!

Is there parking?

There are 3 small free (donations welcomed) public carparks in Alstonefield all within walking distance of The George. There is also on road parking by the green opposite, but please make sure you dont block the road or entrances.  Farmers need access at all times, as do our residents!

Taxi services

If you are planning to be picked up by taxi you need to book ahead. We can recommend Village Taxis Ashbourne. 01335 418080. We are out in the relative wilds of the peak district and taxis are hard to come by, so please do not rely on calling one when you arrive, we would hate for you to be stranded!

Where can I find your booking conditions?

You can see them HERE and upon booking there is also a link with a checkbox which you will need to tick to complete your booking.
